GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Children in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick Counties will have more books available for them to read.

The Heartland United Way plans to install the first of seven Little Free Libraries on Wednesday, June 21. The installation will be part of the United Way’s Day of Action that encourages people to make a difference with the extra daylight on the longest day of the year.

The seven little libraries will be registered with the national Little Free Library organization that promotes reading on a local level. The Little Free Library’s encourage people to “take a book, read a book and then return a book”. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share.

The Heartland United Way Little Free Library project has been over a year in the making.

The installation at Lincoln Elementary School in Grand Island, will incorporate the “Heartland’s Biggest Summer Story Time” where over 40 volunteers, 28 teachers & administrators will read to over 300 children from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Mayor Jeremy Jensen will attend and participate.
