Welcoming Week 2025

Welcoming Week is dedicated to fostering an inclusive community, bringing together public and private organizations along with local residents to support and celebrate Grand Island’s immigrant and refugee populations, while promoting a culture of welcome and belonging.

Each year the Heartland United Way, along with Nebraska Extension, hosts a tour of diverse Grand Island businesses called Welcome In: Community Business Tours (Formerly 4th Street Business Tour).

Welcome In: Community Business Tours AM Edition will be held September 21st from 10a.m. to Noon.

Celebrate Welcoming Week with Us!
Join Heartland United Way and Sandra Barrera with UNL Extension on Monday, September 21st from 10 AM–12 PM for Welcome In: Community Business Tours!

Step inside local businesses and meet the people who make them unique! This behind-the-scenes tour invites community members to explore different businesses, learn their stories, and connect with the people behind the doors. Many of these businesses are immigrant-owned, offering an opportunity to discover new cultures, experiences, and perspectives right here in our community.

Come curious, meet your neighbors, support local businesses, and see how the people and places around us help make our community a welcoming place for everyone.

Participants must be able to walk a mile with stops in between. Comfortable shoes are recommended. This event is free and open to everyone—bring a friend and join the celebration!
